New Bugatti Veyron under Development; To Produce 1600bhp

New Bugatti Veyron under Development; To Produce 1600bhp

When the Bugatti Veyron first made an appearance, it more or less instantly made an impact on all those who witnessed the cars performance, looks and styling. However from the looks of it, Bugatti is not satisfied with just one of the world’s fastest super car title. And to add to that title, Bugatti is developing an all new 1600bhp Bugatti Veyron; one that will once again snatch the title of world’s fastest super car.

According to Bugatti, this new Veyron will be capable of achieving a top speed of up to 465kmph and will cover 0-100km in a mind boggling 1.8 seconds. Now how exactly is Bugatti planning to achieve these claims? Well for starters, the Volkswagen owned company plans to shed 250kg of curb weight from the Veyron and increase engine size for extra performance. Judging from the reports coming in, the new Veyron will utilise the same W16 quad-turbo charged engine with an increased engine capacity of 9.6-litres. There may also be changes to the cars design to make it more aerodynamic while maintaining the cars original grille and dimensions.

“We are working on the next super-sports car,” chief vehicle engineer Jens Schulenburg reported. “The big challenge will be reducing weight – we are looking at some incredible technologies, such as wheels made entirely from carbon fibre. We’re considering hybrids, too.”

                Eterniti launches the Artemis

Eterniti, a small British luxury carmaker has launched its first model, the Artemis. Based on the current Porsche Cayenne Turbo, the Artemis began life as the Hemera and was unveiled at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show. The ‘Super-SUV’ (a term coined by the company for this vehicle) was re-christened the Artemis and then re-launched at the 2012 Beijing Motor Show.
If the Cayenne is a luxurious supercar on big wheels, then the Artemis is a Cayenne decked up to replicate the luxuriousness of Buckingham Palace.  On the outside the car has been hand-built with panels made from carbon composites. It can be painted in a variety of colours and be trimmed both inside and outside as per the buyers choice. The Artemis sits on massive 23-inch alloy wheels which have been shod with 315/25 tyres.

However, the ‘my crossover is a moving palace’ theme really starts to come alive when you step inside. The rear cabin has been kitted in a combination of leather seats, quilted floor coverings and lambswool rugs. This in combination with a wood and carbon fibre finish on the doors gives it a super luxurious feel.
The back also gets its own climate control, reclining seats, drinks chiller (complete with crystal glasses) and optional star-light roof lining.  Up front, most of Porsche’s electronics, stalks, controls and gauges have been retained albeit with a bit of re-branding and the luxury treatment.

Underneath the hood, a 4.8-litre twin-turbo V8 engine produces 600bhp and 750Nm of torque. This pushes the crossover from 0-100kph in 4.5 seconds to a top speed of 290kph. The company says the car was test-driven by former F1 driver Johnny Herbert.
Here is the bombshell, all this luxury is yours for a ‘modest’ 210,000 Pound Sterling (Rs 1.8 crore before taxes and duties), except in China where the company has planned a different pricing strategy altogether.  While it is strange that Eterniti has released this car in midst of a financial crisis across Europe, their special pricing policy for China provides hints as to where they actually want to target the crossover.

Audi to hike price of vehicles by up to five per cent

Audi India will hike the price of all its vehicles by up to five per cent with effect from the first of January 2013. The German automaker has attributed the hike to increasing input costs and drop in the value of the Rupee.
Speaking on the hike, Michael Perschke, director Audi India, said "The overall market scenario is challenging. The rise in input cost, depreciating rupee as well as continuous increase in fuel prices has made us re-evaluate our pricing strategy in India and increase the prices of the entire range."
Audi is one of the many manufacturers in India who import crucial components like engines and drivetrains for most of their vehicles and it is obvious that the fluctuations have hit them hard.

FIA to restrict the use of DRS in Formula 1 for 2013

loading
The FIA has restricted the usage of Drag Reduction System (DRS) in Formula 1 from 2013. It means that the drivers will be allowed to deploy DRS only in the official zone even during the free practice and qualifiers.
Since introduction in 2011, drivers were free to use DRS on any part of the circuit all through Friday and Saturday.  However, the new rule has been introduced by FIA citing safety “safety reasons”. Formula 1 race director, Charlie Whiting, believes that the free usage of DRS in practice and qualifying is responsible for many crashes.
"We are going to prohibit the use of DRS in practice and qualifying except in the areas where it's going to be used in the race," Whiting was quoted as saying by BBC Sport.
"We're doing that for safety reasons. We believe there have been a number of incidents and drivers have told me it is becoming increasingly prevalent.
"We didn't want to have it in practice and qualifying before but we were worried we would not have effective DRS systems. Now all the information we have is that we will not see any reduction in the power of the DRS."

Mercedes-Benz previews Ener-G-Force Concept SUV

loading
Mercedes-Benz has previewed its Ener-G-Force Concept SUV a few weeks before its debut at the 2012 LA Motor Show.  The Ener-G-Force concept is the German Automakers entry into this year’s Los Angles Design Challenge which has the theme ‘Highway Patrol Vehicle 2025’.
The Ener-G-Force gives us a preview of what future G-Class models will look like.  Its imposing presence is backed up by the large hood, large grille, towing winch and LED headlights, giving the impression of a menacing face (now you know what to expect if you break the law in 2025).
It has slat windows, specially designed body work, big wheels which been shod with even bigger tyres. At the back we can see design cues from the present models despite most of the body being specially sculpted. In place of the spare tyre there appears to be a tank set to the side.

However, where the SUV differs from its current siblings is its power plant. Mercedes-Benz says the Ener-G-Force concept will be Hydrogen derived electric vehicle.  It stores water in tanks on the roof, and then uses a “hydro-tech converter” to separates the hydrogen.
The hydrogen is then converted into electricity and stored in the in specially designed side skirts. Finally, the power is then routed to four electric motors (one in each wheel). This system gives the Ener-G-Force a 500-mile range. The company claims the hydrogen side skirts can also be swapped for battery packs.
To keep in tune with its off-roading heritage, the SUV has been fitted with a 360-degree topography scanner aptly named the ‘Terra Scan’. This allows the SUVs computer to adjust the suspension settings based on the terrain and the gradient.
This is currently just a concept and we hope that this exciting model becomes the G-Class of the future, a model that is known world over for its reliability and performance.  While this is exciting to look at, it even more tantalising to image what an AMG version of this model will turn out like, provided the AMG skunkworks still exists in 2025.

Lamborghini Aventador meets real life: Chris's view

Forget the Top Gear test track, this is the ultimate test of a supercar as the Telegraph Motoring team pits Lamborghini's biggest, baddest and fastest against a range of real-world challenges.

2 out of 5 stars
Lamborghini Aventador, petrol station closed due to panic buying

On Thursday March 29 2012, Britain went into a petrol panic-buying frenzy. People queued for hours to top up as reports of a tanker strike over the long Easter weekend threatened to bring the country to a standstill. The result, inevitably, was that petrol stations began to run dry.
The next day, I picked up the 6.5-litre, V12 Lamborghini Aventador. I had 24 hours in this most super of supercars, which in my book meant blasting along the M4 from London to Wales. However, the prospect of getting stranded in a bright orange Lamborghini on the outskirts of Swindon with no fuel had led me to reconsider. A more local loop was called for, heading south down the A3 before cutting back east along the A272, a fast, flowing road that would suit the Aventador's considerable footprint.
Beyond the expected Lamborghini theatrics, the Aventador comes with a healthy sprinkling of Audi practicalities. The satnav, for example, has an excellent traffic avoidance system, and the whole car feels as though it'll stand the test of time. In fact, anything less than Ingolstadt levels of fit and finish would most likely have ended up with the Aventador's dash having a lifespan of about three weeks, such is the stiffness that results from a carbon-fibre monocoque chassis, pushrod suspension and ultra-low profile tyres. In true supercar fashion the ride improves the faster you go (honest, officer), but even a few days after handing back the Aventador, I'm struggling to think of a place where you could actually use its performance.
My journey down the A3 is about as surreal as you would expect, with vans pulling out of the way to give me (OK, the car) the thumbs up, camera phones pointed and, at one point, a whole Lotus lost in one of the engine bay's huge cooling slats. And then I reach the Hindhead Tunnel. With the traffic having thinned I couldn't resist the opportunity to select "Corsa" mode, drop the windows a touch, tug at the left-hand paddle until the V12 bellows and the squeeze the long, floor-hinged throttle pedal to the floor to bring all 690bhp out to play. A V12 symphony bounced through the mile-long tunnel as the Aventador leapt from 50-70mph, snapping its way through gears with the violence of a Floyd Mayweather right hook. Fuel might well be in short supply, but there can be no better way to burn up what's left.

BMW 7 Series facelift set for November launch

The BMW 7 Series has had a midlife makeover and the new car is set to debut in India in November this year

BMW 7 Series facelift

The current 7 Series available in the market is soon going to be replaced by the newly enhanced model, which essentially is a midlife makeover on the current firth generation car. For India, BMW is set to introduce the 7 Series only in its long wheelbase avatar and a single engine option, namely a 3.0 litre diesel unit.

Visually, the major changes to the BMW 730Ld have been focused on the front and these include the new LED headlights, new BMW kidney grille, revised front bumper, side indicators incorporated on the bottom of the ORVMs and a thin chrome strip connecting the two slim reflectors in the rear apron. Apart from that, the 7 Series retains its quintessential chiseled styling and proportions including the long hood and set back passenger cabin. Interior changes are limited, however, major changes include narrower front seats and a new 1,200 watt Bang and Olufsen high end surround sound system with 16 speakers.

The 730Ld is powered by a 2993cc, in line 6 cylinder diesel unit. The engine itself is not new; however it has been tweaked for overall performance and enhanced efficiency. Fitted with a turbocharger, variable intake geometry and piezo injectors, the engine now delivers 258Hp @ 4000 rpm as opposed to 231 horses earlier, and torque has also gone up from 520Nm to 560Nm which kicks in as low as 1500rpm. Unlike the earlier car, the new car is now mated to an all new eight speed automatic with steptronic. With all these changes in the drivetrain, the new 730Ld is capable of going from 0-100km/h in 6.2 seconds, shaving close to 1.7 seconds off its predecessor!

Quintessentially pinned against the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the 7 Series will have to battle it out against the Audi A8 and Jaguar XJ as well. With all the cars being as accomplished as one another, the choice for a fancy set of wheels is only going to get tougher! Set for a November 2012 debut, the new BMW 730Ld is expected to be priced anywhere between Rs 85-90 lakhs, ex-showroom, Delhi.

Hamilton feels 'Sebastian Vettel is one of the luckiest'

Abu Dhabi:  McLaren's Lewis Hamilton has described Sebastian Vettel as "lucky" after the German raced his Red Bull from the last position on the grid to a podium finish in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

In a report published in BBC, the Briton said that Vettel's ascent was incredible. "(It was) incredible how he came up. He must be the luckiest driver in F1,"he was quoted as saying in the report.

Hamilton himself was the quickest in two of three practice sessions and took pole position. He however retired mid-way through the Abu Dhabi GP. In contrast, Sebastian Vettel managed to surge past cars with forceful intent as he finished the race behind winner Kimi Raikkonen and Fernando Alonso.

While Hamilton has been ruing the fact that a possible McLaren 1-2 was not realised here though it was possible, (read: We could have finished 1-2, says Hamilton) Vettel has been praised for his stunning comeback.

The 25-year-old driver described the race as crazy. (Read: Vettel charges to the top) A day later on Monday, Red Bull chief Christian Horner too chipped in saying it was a 'phenomenal' race and result. "I think it was one of the best [races] of his career. I think he really went for it and to go from the pitlane to the podium, it was phenomenal." (Read: Vettel lauded by Red Bull chief)

                     Lamborghini Sesto Elemento

The Lamborghini Sesto Elemento ("Sixth Element" in Italian) is a two-seaterV10 high-performance lightweight limited edition car produced by Italian automakerLamborghini, which debuted at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The Sesto Elemento's name is a reference to the atomic number of carbon, in recognition of the car's extensive use of carbon fiber.

Design

The Sesto Elemento is equipped with a 6-speed paddle-shift, semi-automatic transmission and all-wheel-drive system, mated to a 5.2-litre V10 engine borrowed from the Lamborghini Gallardo, generating 570 horsepower and 540 Nm (398 lb·ft) of torque. The chassis, body, driveshaft and suspension components are made of carbon fiber, reducing the overall weight to a mere 999 kilograms (2,200 lb), a weight comparable to subcompacts such as a Honda Fit.[1] It is the lightest car Lamborghini has ever produced.[citation needed]
Air is released through 10 distinctive hexagonal holes in the engine cover, while two intakes funnel cool air into the mid-mounted engine compartment. The Sesto Elemento's high amount of horsepower combined with low overall weight translate to a power-to-weight ratio of 1.75 kg/hp (3.85 lb/hp). Lamborghini claims a 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) acceleration time of just 2.6 seconds, and a top speed of 350 km/h (217 mph). Lamborghini sources said "...It will never be road legal".[citation needed]

                        Lamborghini Murciélago

The Lamborghini Murciélago is a two-door, two-seat sports car produced by Italian automaker Lamborghini between 2001[2] and 2010. Successor to the Diablo and flagship of the automaker's lineup, the Murciélago was introduced as acoupé in 2001. The automaker's first new design in eleven years, the car was also the brand's first new model under the ownership of German parent company Audi, which is owned by Volkswagen. It was styled by Peruvian-born Belgian Luc Donckerwolke, Lamborghini's head of design from 1998 to 2005.[3]
roadster version was introduced in 2004, followed by the updated LP 640 coupé and roadster and limited edition LP 650–4 Roadster. The final variation to wear the Murciélago nameplate was the LP 670–4 SuperVeloce, powered by the largest and final evolution of the Lamborghini V12 engine. Production of the Murciélago ended on November 5, 2010, with a total run of 4,099 cars.[4] Its successor, the Aventador, was released at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show.[5]

                     Lamborghini Reventón

The Lamborghini Reventón (Spanish pronunciation: [reβenˈton]) is a mid-engine sports car that debuted at the 2007 Frankfurt Motor Show. It is the most expensive Lamborghini road car to date, costing two million dollars (~1.5 million, or ~£840,000).[1] Its top recorded speed was recorded in DubaiUAE at 356 kilometres per hour (221.2 mph). The official press release stated that only 20 vehicles would be sold to the public,[2] with one additional car (marked as 0/20) produced for the Lamborghini Museum.[3] Although early rumors indicated the total number would actually be 100,[2][4][5] each Reventón is clearly stamped with its number in the sequence of 20 between the driver's and passenger's seats.
Despite the exterior being new,[2] almost all the mechanical elements (including the engine) are sourced directly from the Murciélago LP640.[6] According to the official press release, the Reventón exterior styling was inspired by "the fastest airplanes".[7]
